What are some ideas for decorating a girls nursery?

We want to stay away from the typical pink floral room. We also don't like primary colors. We want somehitng bold and unique!

What are some ideas for decorating a girls nursery?
Try some unique color combinations and have your baby bedding set custom made. Chances are if you use your cribset as your inspiration piece, you will be trapped into using a traditional color scheme and nursery theme.

One of the cute themes I have seen recently combined several looks that worked well together. The colors were not pastel girly pink but a bold melon pink, contrasting black and whites. The theme was Parisian with polka dots, poodles, and there were some ribbons and bows. So much more interesting than a focus on any one design. If you are set against pink of any shade, green, purple or even bright orange are excellent choices.
Reply:How about Hot pink and Black.
Reply:We did our daughter's nursery in Classic Pooh. All the decor came from Target, and it looks really nice, very peaceful to be in there. The colors are mostly neutral, you can't go wrong with that.
Reply:What you are looking for is at Bombay kids it has everything from fru-fru to elegant nursery items. I am not sure if they are in the US but Canada has stores everywhere.
Reply:I like light yellow walls (very light) , wood furniture, brown teddy bears.

Also remember, this is going to be your child's room. The place where she can play, build castles and just be herself so stay away from things that can break, otherwise you have this textbook perfect room but your child cannot play in her own room.
Reply:Why not do a big dollhouse like have big furniture and stuffed animals
Reply:I love sunshine yellow and purple. I also love sage. I think that JcPenneys has all kinds of non traditional things. I know that my friend just had a little boy and instead of the traditional blue she done orange and got Tennessee Volunteer stuff. She found everything she needed.
Reply:A another great theme is painting carousel horses....you can add a few butterflies flying around them. You can add a windup carousel music box to play tunes and entertain your child. A fantastic idea is to purchase a round crib. What's so fabulous about it is that you can gain access to your baby all the way around the crib and not have to worry about banging into corners. This theme can be adapted in a fantasy park....with castles...whatever...just let your imagination run wild. :)

I know how you feel. We're having a boy and i hate baby blue and fire trucks. We're doing red, but i have to make it myself unless i was cherry red, which is tooooo bright.

That ebay store has a TON of awesome bedding.
Reply:I did my oldest daughters stuff in Noah's Ark. For my second daughter I did Precious Moments, and for my youngest daughter I did just purple w/ butterflies. One time at Wal-mart I found a whole line of Raggedy Ann %26amp; Andy that was sooo cute. I wanted to do it for one of my kids but it wasn't there any more when I got preggers again. Another suggestion that imo is really cute is the Classic Pooh, they have it at Target. Good luck %26amp; Congrats.
Reply:how about a butterfly gallery. you know different types of butterfly pics or paints on the wall. lots of colors. butterfly mobile. it would be very pretty.
Reply:I know, i Think is so clichè to do it pink. I'mdoing a baby animal safari theme I saw (and bought) from target (you can find it in amazon too) get to target.com, in bedding you'll find a nursery section, grat options and really cute, I already got what I ordered and theyare very good quality, better than I expected. They have sea animals, safari animals, noah's ark, and lots more.
Reply:For my twin girls, I painted their room a sage green on top, white chair rail then cream on the bottom of my walls. I did it this way because if you decide to introduce pink into the room, it will go with either the sage green or cream paint colors.

Then, I used the bumble bee and pooh bear themes for their cribs. I found the bumble bee crib accessories on the JC Penny website and also at Babies R Us and the Pooh bear crib accessories at Tar'get.

Hope this has helped you.. :-)
Reply:my 10 month olds room is carebears
Reply:What about a lavender room with a castle, unicorns, ponies - all the whimsical things of a princess castle in a magical land.

It would lend itself well to being a nursery theme, but would also be appropriate for a young girl. As she gets older, you could add things like a canopy for her bed, and the like.

Just a thought.

Have a wonderous time with your baby girl!!
Reply:i had such a time with this for my daughter who is now 3 . I started looking in home magazines for things i liked then i scaled them down to fit a little girl . we ended up with a French country style bedroom the walls are a sage green , furniture is in mahogany bedding fresh white with small purple flowers and green stripes i hung peg board shelves alittle above eye level to put her keepsakes and to hang up her prettiest dresses everyone who has ever visited has loved it and it will not be so quickly grown out of . so good luck , start looking i love the martha stewart magazines and hgtv's web site is a fun place to look as well
