Sewing drapery panels together?

Have any of you ever sewn pleated drapery panels together? I had to buy 4 (FLORAL) panels to fit my big double window and I need to sew 2 together for each side. My question is: Should I try to completely open the seams on the the side of the panel, then sew them together or just stitch them with the seams left intact? I'm not sure how they will look because I will have sheer curtains behind them. Also how hard is it to seem together the pleats at the top and make them look like they are all one piece of fabric? I'm new to sewing and fell in love with these curtains when I saw them. I hoping with some help I can tackle this project. Thank You for any suggestions.

Sewing drapery panels together?
Why sew them together? Put them on the rod with the normal space in the middle. If you want to secure them together, put a pin in, where the 2 meet, at the top.
Reply:Well, it depends, how thick is the fabric? When you sew pieces of fabric together to make a seam this results in 4 pieces of fabric at the seam. So, if you take the two existing seams and sew them together, you'll have a bulkier resulting seam. This will affect how the fabric hangs. I'd recommend opening the seam with a seam ripper. You'll then have to open the seams at the top and bottom of the curtin a bit so you can create a new seam. It's extra effort but worth it for a better overall look and they will hang better.
Reply:I have sewn a lot of drapery panels together. I do not take the seam out at all. I just pin the drapes together and sew. I have the same problem as you with the larger windows and needed the wider drapes and have done this for more than thirty years. The sewing it just a straight line and just remember to pin carefully. The sewing will be easy then.
