Is it a good or bad idea to have your bridemaid dresses match the color of your wedding reception?

Like would you want your bridemaid's dresses to match the floral elements and color themes...etc? or is that cheesy and should not be done?

Is it a good or bad idea to have your bridemaid dresses match the color of your wedding reception?
Generally speaking, a couple chooses 2 or 3 colors for their wedding. Those 2 or 3 colors generally compliment one another, and are used throughout the wedding... from flower arrangements (which or not usually one solid color anyway) to the bridesmaids dresses.

So in answer to your question, color coordination is not "cheesy" just be tasteful in your coordinating :)
Reply:They don't have to match but definitely should complement each other. One thing to keep in mind is that there needs to be some contrast between bridemaid's flowers and their dresses or the flowers, which are expensive, don't show during the ceremony or in the photos.
Reply:that's what I'm doing and that's what everybody I know does, if your worried about it then don't use the exact colors go a shade lighter or darker
Reply:well it should at least go together. you wouldnt want the girls in bright orange dresses with the flowers and table cloths being ruby red. they need to coordinate. my MOH was in pink and my reception was done in pink, silver and white.
Reply:depends on the colors and how many colors u can do same style dresses in different colors or different style dresses in the same color
Reply:not a great idea..they will look like decorations
Reply:I think they should at least be complimentary colors. I am using the same venue for the ceremony and the reception so to have the bridesmaids in any other colors would be odd. I don't think that makes them blend in - I think it incorporates them into the big day, which is the whole idea of having bridesmaids, right? To include those closest to you?
Reply:I think it depends upon your wedding colors. Our colors are black, white %26amp; red. I am not having floral centerpieces. My bridesmaids will be in red. I will be in white with red embroidery. My flowers will be red, the bridesmaids will be white flowers.
Reply:i think that your bridesmaids should tie in with your reception theme, i thought that was the whole point have it all tie in together.

my theme is pink, and i will have pink bows on the chairs and pink candles on the tables, with pink rose pettles.

in my opinion this is the way it should be.

but it is whatever you want and whatever makes you happy on your big day.
Reply:It should be complementary but not matchy matchy. Maybe different shades of the same color, or if you are doing autumn colors for example, you could have brown dresses and orange flowers.

I just don't like it when everything is identical, but you do want it to look good together.
Reply:Mine did. Our color scheme was navy blue and silver and our theme was starry night. The bridesmaids dresses were navy blue two pieces with silver flowers embroidered on the shoulder of the top which was sleeveless. This was their idea but I thought it was really thoughtful and sweet. We paid for them to have their hair and nails done before the wedding and they had the hair stylist put small silver stars in their hair. It was a really neat touch.
Reply:I would say choose a color that is "frequent" in your decorations, for example say purple. Since purple is a bold color anyway, have your bridesmaids wear a dress that down plays it, like a cream or white and wear purple accents [like ribbon, jewelry or shoes]. That way everything ties in together and your bridesmaids don't disappear into the table cloth. :)
Reply:I would say match, you dont want a mix and match. Just be careful when your girls pick up the dresses. My girls picked up the dresses for themselves at different times and the color of the cranberry dresseswere slightly different and you could not tell until the pictures came back from the photog. If we picked up all together you could make sure. Live and learn, I say. Have a great day, there are not too may days in your life to compare it too. I loved my wedding.
Reply:bad idea, you dnt want them to look like decorations or wall paper. diffrentiate their dresses from the floral designs. i think it will look better, but then again its just my opinion.
