Denali Questions: What are trail conditons like in early June on the Stampede to the McCandless bus?

Any info you can give would be appreciated. The actual trail, the rivers, floral / fauna to watch for, flies/mosquitos, bears/moose. Anyone who has made the trek in have an learning experiences to share? Thanks!

Well that tail will be fine then. The vegetation will be starting to get lush, the devils club will be growing its large leaves. Night will be chilly. You will see lots different kinds of birds in the area. That would be a good time to hike it; from then until late September.

I pity that fool McCandless. I know the movie made it look all romantic and noble on his part but he failed to listen to reason and starved to death. So now because of that story the park rangers have to deal with lots of morons like him that want to survive in the wilderness.

Quote:

“Alaskan Park Ranger Peter Christian wrote: “I am exposed continually to what I will call the ‘McCandless Phenomenon.’ People, nearly always young men, come to Alaska to challenge themselves against an unforgiving wilderness landscape where convenience of access and possibility of rescue are practically nonexistent. When you consider McCandless from my perspective, you quickly see that what he did wasn’t even particularly daring, just stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate.”

The man was a fool he didn’t bring a map of the area. Hell he could have just walked out! Proof that in today’s world you can be a complete idiot and turn hero by the media.

And by the way locals DO NOT consider that area wilderness. How many abandoned city busses do you think are in wilderness area? None!

Here is a story about a visit to that bus;
