Hi
I have gotten to the point where I can cut back my plants and take cuttings, but I feel upset if I throw away anything
that might possibly grow into a pretty plant. But I do it anyway, now.
What ever should I think? I am sure people in the greenhouse business and floral experts and botanists do this
sort of thing all the time.
What ever do you think they think when doing a big weeding?
Ta!
How do you brace yourself if throwing out plants?
Tip all your unwanted plants into the compost bin - this way they will not be wasted - just recycled.
Reply:I feel your pain. The best way is to do it fast, like pulling off a band aid. There are times that you just don't have the room.
Reply:Why are you wasting a perfectly good plant?! Cuttings and babies can be made to grow and be given to neighbors, friends and Elder Centers as gifts! I hate seeing or hearing about waste of perfectly good things be they animated or not. There IS life after somethings usefulness is done for someone else!
Reply:Sadly gardeners sometimes need to be cruel to be kind. The annoying part occurs AFTER you have shredded enough surplus plants to fill a second garden, then people say, I would have had that, them , and those, don`t throw them away next year. But you do!
Reply:i usually wait till the plant dies or my cat eats it....then i throw it out with no problems.
Reply:well, just last week i threw my favourite plant in the bin which i did'nt want to but i had to as it was all dried up !!it was a lucky bamboo plant.
Reply:The best thing is just to get it over as quickly as possible. Blast them with a shotgun or something. They'll feel no pain.
Or...or...
Hire a goat (or a sheep) to eat them - then at least they'll be helping somone.
Reply:i feel that way too.. i have to cut back my spider plant all the time.. it sprouts little babies and i ave way to many plants as it is .. i have given a lot to the neighbors and people i have even taken them to the little thrift store around the corner from me and donated them.. but i am running out of places every time i cut it back.... i feel bad when i have to throw the cuttings out.
i have a plant that i cant cut back.. its not an ivey but its growing like one.. and i have it wrapped several times on brackets in my kitchen LOL but i do understand.... its just something you have grown and now you have to much and feel really bad just throwing it away!
