I live in Florida -I have a 9 week old -I'm looking for a sun-screen thats mostly natural -no harsh ingredients -like mineral -oil - it can't smell like a sun-screen either -I'd prefer it smell very light, floral or even unscented and it can not clogg pores - and not be greasy or stain clothes - I want to be able to put it on her in the morning and leave it on til bath time with no problems
What is the best sun-screen to use on a newborn ??
I agree with a hat and shade when possible but life isn't that simple. I really would call up your doctors office and ask just in case there is some specialty for infant sun-block but otherwise I would say Water Babies. The name could just be misleading me but I believe that there formula is supposed to be extra gentle. Check out this link.

Reply:Banana Boat SPF 50 for babies. She has really light skin,so far so good.Ours is 5 months old
Reply:Put a big ol' hat on her little head.
Reply:They make a sunscreen in a pink bottle called baby blanket, and it works like a charm.
Reply:Coppertone Water Babies Spectra 3...been using it since my son was born last year!! I asked his dr, and it's what he reccommended. We took a trip to GA when he was six weeks old and needed it. It's non-greasy, fragrance free, blocks UVA and UVB rays, SPF 50, and waterproof. We really only needed to apply it on him every 8 hours or so...works wonders and I swear by the stuff!! All other sunscreens are either too greasy or hard to rub in, but not this one! Here's the coppertone link to take you right to the product in case you wanna know what you're looking for, or to read for yourself the details of the sunscreen.
Reply:Living in a tropical country, I've been told that it's not safe to use sun screen on a baby. Best if you can just stay indoors when the sun is really hot. If you want to be able to take her outside, do so in the early morning (which is also good for avoiding jaundice) or in the late afternoon. If you really have to go out when the sun is piping hot, cover her skin with long clothes and use a hat for her head. Try to minimize exposure as much as possible.
Reply:Waterbabies for infants.
Reply:Please o please don`t expose your baby to any sunlight. If you do take her out make sure she is covered with long tops and long dresses or trousers and most importantly a HAT.The babies skin is soooo senitive and especially as you have fair skin.I have seen many babies burnt extremely badly because of no protection.Creams are useless.Thats my thoughts. My friends mum lived in Canada and protected her kids by not taking them out in the afternoon .
Reply:Shade.
Reply:I don't really have an answer for you because my daughter is 4 and I'm still searching for the right sunscreen, but I CAN tell you NOT to use the cheap stuff. Last summer someone told me that it was just as good as the name brand. NOT SO! She and I both burned to a crisp. Actually, I ended up in the E.R. It may cost a considerable amount more, but it's well worth it.
Reply:You aren't supposed to put sunscreen on infants under 6 months. Read the label on the lotions. Also, get a book like what to expect the first year.
Reply:Tried and true is Bullfrog for kids smells good and very mild. Won't burn eyes, when in the water it stays on. I live on a boat and have raise my kids on the beach and on a boat. Don't forget a little bit goes a long way and it is waterproof. You still must reapply a little ever couple of hours.
