Cottage and Victorian, Can they live in harmony?

I am wanting to decorate my house with rose patterned dinnerware, and beautiful mahogany wood table, but I also love painted wainscotting, and big soft couches, lace, vintage floral, granny chic, doilies. Can they all work together? I also love embroidered things, and homemade stuff. And seasonal decorations. Can it work together? Can it be super casual but pretty at the same time?

Cottage and Victorian, Can they live in harmony?
Absolutely! It sounds just gorgeous. Not every Victorian person lived in a mansion. I like traditional furniture myself.

Antique cherry in the living and dining room, more country casual in the kitchen and family rooms. The color scheme

blends my rooms together. (I have blue somewhere in every room; sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.) Go to the library for some books with cottage decorating schemes and/or checkout HGTV.com and Cottage Living magazine.

Good Luck!
Reply:Your types of decor are so well suited to eachother, The trick to keeping it casual will be in keeping a minimum of fussy clutter on the surfaces. Victorian and Cottage both have the potential for being formal, so keep the walls light, and only have things that you love. Also consider putting some things away to bring out and sort of "cycle" thru your treasures. Unify the two themes with a common color pallete and remember to use lots of white and soft colors to keep it feeling light and relaxed. Be consistant in each room, don't do victorian in one and casual cottage in another. Have fun!
