My friend got a tattoo recently allthough a very feminine, tasteful floral design, her family is freaking out about it.
Does anyone know what denomination of Christianity is against tattoos?
Its not the denomination its the family.
Parents freak out when their kid does something they think is horrible. Religion is used as a way to scare people sometimes. I really do not believe you will go to he** for getting a tattoo regardless what your friends parents are saying. Getting a tattoo does not make one a bad person.
Reply:Catholics are dead set against tattooing - many catholic cemetaries will not permit a tattoed body to be buried on the grounds.
Baptists are also strongly against tattooing.
In fact, Most christian denominations do not approve of tattoos, although in the past couple of decades more christians are becoming accepting, or atleast turning a blind eye to the art.
In the old testament, it is said that we should not carve and ink into our skin, because our bodies are sacred temples. Especially if we are doing so to honor the dead. The bible also says that the "heathens" marked themselves with tattooes of false gods, so that can be seen as a negative point against ink aswell.
Reply:In the book of Leviticus it says not to put tattoo marks on your body to honour the dead, this was a practise that was followed by the Egyptians, by not having tattoos it set God's people apart as his chosen ones. However, we are no longer under Mosaic Law, so that argument does not hold any weight any more, there is now nothing in the bible that says you cannot have a tattoo if you wish to be accepted as a Christian.
Reply:I would say that it is her family. There are still so many close-minded people about tattoos and piercings. The bible aslo says Judge not less ye be judged. Being tattooed is merely a form of self expression and we should not be judged for expressing ourselves. I didn't get my tattoos ( and I have a lot, I am sleeved) to please or offend anyone they are just for me. I don't judge people for not having tattoos, so don't judge me because I do have tattoos. I wish more people were open minded, but sadly they aren't. I really wouldn't let it bother me. My mother freaked out when she found out I was dating a tattoo artist, but we are married now (10 years) and my mom got her first and probably only tattoo a few years ago. I hope this helps. Good Luck !
Reply:None to my knowledge. You see it all the time where ppl say your body is a temple of god do not defile it which is from corinthians and is an Interpretation of it at that. 1 Cornithians 19 and 20 say Or know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own; for ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body. BTW this chapter is about sexual immorality. the only place in the bible that the word tatto exists is in Leviticus which outlines the laws and rituals for men of the tribe of Levi to become priests. Reading is the path to knowledge read the bible for yourself for this answer. The Catholic church has changed alot in the last decade. As far as cemetaries goes the only ppl not entered that I know of are suicides but ask a priests he would know better then any of us.
Reply:ok here is the real answer... there is no denomination of christianity against tattoos . it says in the bible that your body is the temple of god. im an avid christian curchgoer and a tattoo artist. so i have checked it all ..hope it helps

Reply:I don't understand why they are freaking out. The body is a temple, and a little bit of adorning can't hurt.
Reply:all of them. It's in the bible.
